Project Notes

This project is one of a pair of sites I built for Jim Nadeau of Nadeau Land Surveys. NLS acquired Maine Coast Surveying in 2016 and asked me to build a new site. We decided to use the same basic layout and content for this site as NLS but with a unique look to help differentiate the two firms while making their relationship apparent.

Nadeau Land Surveys has been a client since 2009. I was referred to Jim Nadeau by Steve Blais of Blais Civil Engineers. We've built three different versions of this site over the years, the most recent being in 2017 with a mobile friendly update and the addition of HTTPS/SSL.

A Diverse Range of Services

The challenge when building things for Nadeau Land Surveys is presenting the variety of services they offer in a way that highlights them all without diluting any of the others.

In addition to offering a wide variety of services, Nadeau Land Surveys publishes a very popular monthly newsletter called Welcome to the Floodzone. Building the subscriber list is a top priority of the site so we have several places where people can submit their contact information and view the newsletter archives.

If all this wasn't ambitious enough, the folks at Nadeau Land Surveys also have and educational component called Beyond the Boundary. The main Nadeau Land Surveys site is used to promote this business as well. We display upcoming events, class descriptions, etc.

Contact Forms As Content

It's important to view contact forms as content for the search engines to crawl. Generic form fields are a missed opportunity to increase key word density on your site. With that in mind, I've been encouraging my clients to think beyond the standard 'name, email, message' fields when creating contact forms.

For an example of what I mean, take a look at how Nadeau Land Surveys uses these service request forms to increase engagement with their visitors.
